@ Thar - whats latency like on your Adapters?

whats cheapest decent pair you can get?
Sky Broadband LLu ->  17,600k / 27.5db / 7.0db  = 15.1Mbps / 28ms
Alcatel-Lucent MSAN (Broadcom 10.06.33) <-> Netgear DG834N Router (Broadcom 6358)

@snadge - It was 16ms average but I'm currently testing my line on interleave (had daily dropouts for a while) so getting 23ms currently.

what do you get when you use HRping to your router?

HRping is more precise than standard ping, over wifi I get an average of 1.505ms (Netgear GT) , I get 0.822ms on my Sagem F@ST 2504n which is probably due to the faster processor in the chipset,
 the Netgear DG834GT is broadcom 6348 chipset with a 250mhz CPU
 the Sagem F@ST 2504n is broadcom 6362 chipset with a dual-core 400mhz CPU

probably cos its dual-core n 400mhz - so is faster at being able to respond

what is your D-Link version again?

I cant find any info on that model other than its an older 6328 chip and I cant find any info on it

anyway routers have 3 chips (Wifi, LAN, Modem) and the wifi repsonse time will probably just the wifi chip (when pinging the router) speed that matters - when pinging websites its a combo of both Modem and Wifi

all I know is the Netgear GT is a 6348 modem 256Mhz chip and Atheros Wifi and the Sagemcom 2504N is a 6362 dual-core 400Mhz modem chip which controls BOTH... I think, anyway, its faster than the GT and thats why wifi is faster response...

the DG834N Iam getting is a 6358 chip 300Mhz chip (so is faster than GT) - I dunno if it is also broadcom wifi or what,,,probably will be

got netgear out again today and tried the comtrends but still no good well i say no good speed was 17.7 upload 1.10 but ping was 48 and jitter 28 .soon as i go wireless17.5, upload 1.06, ping 27,jitter 2

i get a better speed with netgear over dlink(wireless) both upload and download,  but get lower ping only by 1 or 2 and no jitter with dlink

anyway going back to comtrends think they are gonna go on ebay and whatever i get for them ill put towards some different ones

you cant really say the D-link is better when testing over a network where the traffic changes second by second

to do a REAL test you should use HRPING with vigorus testing pinging the routers themselves and compare the results

after some researching it seems the D-Link has a Broadcom 6328 chip, which although has a lower number (xx28) than other routers , it seems that its similar to the 6362 chip in the F@ST2504N which controls both modem and wireless-N , whether or not wireless-N is enabled in that router I dont know
